Donors are constantly being introduced to, and solicited by, numerous nonprofits. It is very important for you to create a relationship with your donor that empowers them and includes them in the mission and vision of your organization. Here are the three steps to empowering your supporters successfully.
Get to Know Your Donor
Your donors are giving to your nonprofit, but why are they giving? Do you know what caused them to give? Do you know why they have a passion to support your organization? Ask these questions and others; build a relationship with your donor that enables you to know the answers to these questions. By doing this, it will enable you to channel your financial requests in a more educated manner.
Get Feedback
Ask your donors for their thoughts on the most recent newsletter, or mailing that you sent. Let them know that you appreciate their support. You want to ensure that the information you are sending out is providing the most beneficial approach to attracting new donors to join in the mission and vision of your nonprofit.
Offer Involvement Opportunities
In addition to thanking the donor, ask them if they are interested in joining the organization at a deeper level. Some examples include: joining a committee, helping with an event, or potentially joining the board of directors.
