Education is the foundation for all giving and volunteering. Donors and volunteers seek to understand the full mission and the goals of an organization their involved with.
Every development team tracks donor activity in terms of donations made, calls received, emails sent, and events attended. Are you encouraging your donors to be active in participating in volunteer opportunities?
Encourage donors to your nonprofit to do the following:
Be active in the designation of your donation
When donors give, allow them the choice of choosing where the donation goes, and then following through on that. Pair an online volunteer sign up link with the confirmation of their designated donation. If they donate to a particular project, encourage them to volunteer for the project as well.
Be active in the mission of the organization
Donors have given of their resources, now it is important to have them give of their skills, their talents, and their time. They look to play a major role in meeting the goals you have set. Volunteering in projects and events take them to that next level of involvement within your nonprofit.
Be active in the community
Donors, now also volunteers, can assess some needs of the community that your organization did not even know were there. As they volunteer at different sites and projects, learn from them what works and what isn’t working. Use your donors as ambassadors for your organization, that are educated in your mission, and, because of this understanding, can now further your reach in the community.
The understanding is present and the activity is constant. Take the momentum of your donors becoming volunteers and your volunteers becoming donors, and incorporate this into your donor and volunteer engagement strategies.
