Keeping donors engaged in this day and age is becoming very difficult. There are so many nonprofits reaching out to the same people, and, in a lot of cases, it is just a matter of timing as to what nonprofit gets the primary support from the donor.
Creating lifelong donors is critical in providing a foundation for your nonprofit to succeed and thrive.
In this article, I want to highlight three ways to help you retain your donors.
Get to know your donors
Take the time to meet with them and understand their passions, and why they are currently supporting your organization. Learning them at events or volunteer sites is one thing, but make sure to take the time to set a meeting, one on one.
Showcase the impact your organization is making
Your donor needs to experience the joy of how their donation is making a difference. Let them hear first hand how your organization is fulfilling its mission because of their support. Give them the big picture of what the organization’s goals are and point out specifically where their contributions come into play.
Ask for their input
Have them “buy” into the mission and vision. Share your plans and get their feedback. As new campaigns and appeals are presented to new donors, let current donors share the best ways to reach them, and work their suggestions into your overall strategy in gaining further support.
These three items can have a significant impact on retaining donors and receiving increased donations from your current donor base.
