If you’re like most nonprofits, you have set up an online giving form for your website. We have all heard the statistics that online giving is increasing, but you have implemented your new online giving form, and are not seeing the results that you want. If this sounds familiar, please keep reading as we identify three ways to increase your online giving.

Step one: Set realistic goals

Evaluate your current giving trends, and make an educated guess on how much your online giving can increase. Look at your donation revenue, and see how much it increased from last year. If your online fundraising is generating minimal returns right now, once you develop a targeted plan for online giving, you should see substantial growth. This will be followed by steady growth that resembles your overall giving increase.

Step two: Use a platform that works for you

There are many giving platforms available to nonprofits. They all have key features and differences that will appeal to some, and not to others. When choosing a platform that is right for you, evaluate the platform in three ways: 1) Does it provide an excellent experience for the donor? 2) Is it easy to maintain? 3) Does it allow you to synchronize the data with your donor management system? If you can answer yes to all of the above, the giving platform can work for your organization.

Step three: Creating brand awareness

After steps one and two, you have created a channel for donors to give to your organization online. Attracting donors to your online giving page can be difficult. You need to make it a focus to encourage online giving on all marketing and communication to your donors and potential donors. Directing your donor to your website is a great way to get them started. Nonprofits that have seen great success with online giving are keeping their websites fresh, resulting in donors wanting to check in regularly to see what is happening at the organization.
