The words you use to communicate with your constituents are powerful and purposeful. However, the words from your donors’ and volunteers’ mouths are even more impactful as they seek to build up support on your behalf. Focusing on the relationships you have with supporters can time, but these relationships are of the highest value. Here are five tips on improving communication at your organization:

  • Coordinate Campaigns with Communication

Active fundraising appeals and campaigns that you have going on should have a creative social media schedule to coincide with it. Use emails and calls to get in touch with regular donors; rely on social media to direct fresh attention to campaign giving.

  • Keep Hashtag Count Low

It only takes 1-3 carefully chosen hashtags to tap into some major post engagement. Identify the most popular hashtags for your cause, your audience, and your message, and highlight these as keywords that make a post pop.

  • Immediate Acknowledgment

Handwritten acknowledgement letters have their time and place. Following the initial donation is not one of them. Have personally worded email templates waiting in the wings to send off when a much appreciated donation arrives.

  • Internal Messaging and Collaboration

Email and texts not cutting it with your team? No one looking at your grant proposal rough draft email attachment or text about volunteer count for Saturday’s event? An internal messaging platform (like Slack) and collaborative document sharing (like Google Apps for Nonprofits) can instantly make a difference in the work success of your nonprofit team members.

  • Going Behind the Scenes

Use Instagram and Snapchat to regularly offer behind the scenes glimpses into ongoing projects and daily programs. Bridging the gap between no interaction and first interaction is simple with these popular platforms.
