Over the past several years, the United States population has continued to spend more and more time on social media. The number of people accessing social media is astounding. Data research firm Statista reports the following:
- Facebook has over 1.4 billion users
- LinkedIn has over 347 million users
- Instagram has over 300 million users
- Twitter has over 288 million users
The average American spends 3.2 hours of their day on social media. There’s a good chance that your constituents are part of some social media network. So how does your organization take advantage of the social media marketplace? Are they doing everything they can to reach your constituents? There are three steps that I recommend when developing your social media strategy.
Expand Awareness
Let them know what you are doing, who you are helping and the impact you are having on the community. Share a story of someone or something that has been impacted by your mission.
Provide Learning Opportunities
Enable your constituents with the ability to further engage with your organization by inviting them to an open house or tour. Post regularly about your company’s accomplishments and announcements to let them know what you are doing in your community.
Invite Participation
Let them know of the fundraisers you are doing, and how they can join in to help make them a success. Be sure to share links to these events to make it easy for volunteers to sign up and to get more information. Don’t forget to post photos and updates of the events afterwards. Show off your hard work! Tag or mention your volunteers in photos or videos so their friends can see how they are helping their community.
