After several years of working exclusively with nonprofits, the DonorLynk team is well versed in the many differences of how nonprofits do things. One of these common differences? The volunteer registration and management process. In our efforts to find the common denominator amongst these processes, and the differences within them, we’re highlighting some best practices of volunteer involvement, from start to finish, this week. Today, we’ll take a closer look at the tasks to check off in preparation for every volunteer opportunity offered.
REGISTRATION
Build out your custom signup process, ready to gather contact information, skills, availability, and waiver acceptance. Registration is THE TIME to get the best phone number and/or email address to reach the volunteer at. Ensuring the correct information will make future communication (reminders, invites, surveys, etc.) much smoother and open for automation. Registration is more than just the first step, it is the most vital step.
PROMOTION
The link to register should be shared via email and social media. Develop a micro-campaign to boost excitement and traffic for signing up. Provide all details, FAQ style if you like, so that volunteers are educated on what they’ll be a part of in participating this time around. Use testimonials of long time volunteers and/or clients of your nonprofit to fill out the big picture of how one volunteer can be a part of the overall cause.
